Rhinoplasty & Septorhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty and septorhinoplasty are highly specialised nasal surgeries that combine aesthetic refinement with functional improvement. When performed well, these procedures should not only enhance the appearance of the nose, but also preserve or improve breathing, structural support, and long-term nasal health.

At Hampshire ENT Clinics, rhinoplasty and septorhinoplasty are performed by Mr Tim Biggs, Consultant ENT Surgeon with a specialist interest in rhinology and facial plastic surgery. He runs one of the largest rhinoplasty practices on the South Coast, with a reputation for technically advanced, structurally sound, and natural-looking outcomes.

What Is the Difference Between Rhinoplasty and Septorhinoplasty?

  • Rhinoplasty focuses primarily on the shape and appearance of the nose, addressing concerns such as a dorsal hump, asymmetry, tip shape, or nasal size.

  • Septorhinoplasty combines minor external refinement with correction of the internal nasal structures (particularly the septum and nasal valves) to improve breathing as well as appearance.

Many patients benefit from a combined approach, as nasal form and function are closely linked.

A Structural, Preservation-Focused Approach

Mr Biggs practises modern structural and dorsal preservation rhinoplasty, avoiding over-resection and prioritising long-term stability and airflow.

His techniques include:

  • Dorsal preservation rhinoplasty, where appropriate, to maintain a natural nasal profile

  • Functional septorhinoplasty for nasal obstruction and valve collapse

  • Piezo ultrasonic instrumentation for precise bone reshaping with reduced trauma

  • Advanced tip support and cartilage-sparing techniques

  • Revision rhinoplasty, including complex post-surgical and post-traumatic cases

This approach aims to create results that look natural, age well, and remain functionally robust.

Experience and Expertise You Can Trust

As a Consultant ENT Surgeon rather than a purely cosmetic surgeon, Mr Biggs brings an in-depth understanding of nasal anatomy, airflow dynamics, and sinus disease. This is particularly important for patients who:

  • Struggle with nasal breathing

  • Have had previous nasal surgery

  • Have sustained nasal trauma

  • Want subtle, natural changes rather than an “operated” appearance

Every consultation includes a detailed functional assessment, not just cosmetic planning.

  • Your consultation includes:

    • A detailed discussion of your concerns and goals

    • Assessment of nasal appearance and breathing

    • Internal nasal examination

    • Review of previous surgery or trauma (if relevant)

    • Honest discussion of what surgery can and cannot achieve

    • Explanation of risks, recovery, and expected outcomes

There is no pressure to proceed with surgery.

  • Yes. Many patients undergo functional septorhinoplasty primarily to improve nasal airflow, with subtle cosmetic refinement performed only where appropriate or necessary.

  • Where helpful, imaging may be used as a communication tool, not a promise of outcome. This is explained clearly during consultation to ensure expectations remain realistic.

  • Suitability depends on:

    • Nasal anatomy and skin thickness

    • Breathing function

    • Overall facial balance

    • Medical and psychological readiness for surgery

If surgery is not appropriate, this will be discussed openly.

  • Mr Biggs uses modern, evidence-based techniques, including:

    • Dorsal preservation rhinoplasty (where appropriate)

    • Structural and cartilage-sparing methods

    • Piezo ultrasonic bone sculpting

    • Advanced tip support techniques

    • Revision and reconstructive rhinoplasty

The emphasis is on natural results, long-term stability, and preservation of breathing.

  • No. The aim is always a natural, balanced result that suits your face and ages well. Over-resection and aggressive techniques are avoided.

  • Protecting and improving nasal airflow is a core principle. Functional assessment is part of every consultation, even when surgery is primarily cosmetic.

  • Pain is usually mild to moderate and well controlled with simple pain relief. Congestion and pressure are more common than pain in the early recovery period.

    • Most patients return to desk-based work within 7–10 days

    • Swelling reduces steadily over weeks to months

    • Final results can take up to 12 months to fully settle

  • No. In contrast to most surgeons I use no nasal packing here, meaning you can breathe straight away.

  • Follow-up is structured and ongoing, typically including early post-operative review and longer-term assessment to ensure healing and results are progressing as expected.

  • Please see the Adnova Clinic website for details on costs.

  • Early concerns are common due to swelling and healing. Final results take time. If concerns persist, they are addressed carefully and honestly, with revision surgery considered only when appropriate and safe.

  • Yes. Revision rhinoplasty is a major part of the practice, including complex cases following previous surgery elsewhere. These procedures require careful planning and specialist expertise.
