Hampshire ENT Clinics is delighted to welcome Miss Eleanor Sproson, Consultant Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) Surgeon, to the team. Miss Sproson brings over 20 years of experience in ENT, with specialist expertise in paediatric ENT and voice disorders (laryngology) affecting both children and adults.
She is the Lead Paediatric ENT Consultant at Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust and sees private patients at the Harbour Suite, Queen Alexandra Hospital, and Medicana Winchester. Her arrival further strengthens the specialist services available through Hampshire ENT Clinics, particularly for children with ear, nose and throat conditions and patients with complex voice problems.
Specialist Expertise in Children’s ENT
Miss Sproson is highly experienced in diagnosing and treating a wide range of ENT conditions affecting children. Her clinical work focuses on helping children breathe, hear, sleep and speak more comfortably.
She regularly treats conditions including:
Glue ear and childhood hearing problems
Recurrent tonsillitis and enlarged tonsils
Snoring and obstructive sleep apnoea in children
Tongue tie in babies and older children
Nasal allergies and chronic nasal symptoms
Congenital ENT conditions such as pre-auricular sinuses, branchial cleft abnormalities and thyroglossal duct cysts
Noisy breathing in children including laryngomalacia, tracheomalacia and airway narrowing

In addition to paediatric ENT, Miss Sproson has advanced expertise in laryngology – the diagnosis and treatment of voice, breathing and swallowing disorders.
Voice problems often have multiple causes, and Miss Sproson takes a holistic approach, combining medical, surgical and therapeutic treatments where appropriate.

Muscle tension dysphonia
Vocal cord nodules, polyps and papillomas
Vocal cord weakness or paralysis
Laryngopharyngeal reflux (silent reflux)

Her surgical expertise includes phonosurgery, injection laryngoplasty, thyroplasty and laryngeal reinnervation, advanced procedures used to restore voice and vocal cord function.
Fellowship Training and Specialist Qualifications
Miss Sproson trained in the Wessex region (Hampshire, Wiltshire and Dorset) before completing an advanced fellowship in Paediatric ENT surgery at Evelina London Children’s Hospital, one of the UK’s leading centres for children’s airway and ENT care.
During her training she developed expertise in managing complex airway conditions and advanced voice surgery techniques, including laryngeal reinnervation.
Alongside her surgical training, she completed an MSc in Allergy, allowing her to take a broader view of airway inflammation and allergy-related ENT conditions.
National Leadership in Patient Safety and Quality Improvement
Miss Sproson has also made significant contributions to improving healthcare systems and patient safety.
She founded the Make the Airway Safe Team (MAST) initiative, a programme designed to improve the emergency care of children with airway problems through simulation training and pathway improvement across hospitals.
The initiative received national recognition, including:
Nomination for “Wonderful Workforce Solution of the Year” in the NHS Shine Awards
Highly commended finalist for “High Performing Education and Training Team of the Year”
Her work has since expanded nationally through the Paediatric Operational Delivery Network.
Miss Sproson has also contributed to key research and national guidance in paediatric ENT, including work supporting Coblation intracapsular tonsillectomy as a safer surgical option for children with tonsil-related breathing problems.
